SUMMARY

The Human Resources Specialist performs involved clerical and technical work in the Human Resources Department.  Employee may be assigned to one of the following functional areas: generalist, employment/records, or benefits.  Primary responsibilities include assembling, reviewing, processing and entering various personnel data, researching files, and maintaining related records.  Work is performed according to established policies, procedures, and deadlines. Employee is expected to exercise discretion, judgment and confidentiality to develop work routines and complete assignments with minimal supervision. The Human Resources Specialist is directly responsible to the Director of Human Resources. This position is eligible for overtime.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties and responsibilities are given as examples of the various types of work performed in this position.  Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  1. Processes paperwork, verifying the completeness and accuracy of information within the assigned functional area.
  2. Maintains compliance with federal and state regulations and Youth Ranches policies and procedures.
  3. Processes monthly billings, reviewing for accuracy and resolves any discrepancies with appropriate vendor within the assigned functional area.
  4. Acts as liaison with various departments, vendors and employees; assists with completion of forms, resolving concerns and verifying information.
  5. Prepares and ensures that all internal and external correspondence and communications are completed within established time frames.
  6. Handles and maintains confidential information.
  7. Provides operational support to other human resources and Main Office staff (switchboard coverage) as needed.
  1. Cross-trains with other Human Resources positions assigned by Director of Human Resources.

In addition to the general job duties above, each functional area has the following area specific duties:

Processes all material relative to benefit enrollments, including the presentation of benefits during the annual enrollment and quarterly orientations, terminations, family status changes, evidence of insurability, waiver of premiums, death and disability claims; and adheres to all guidelines regarding eligibility and ensures documentation.
  1. Explains post-service benefit options to and answers questions from terminating employees.
  2. Reviews and checks timecards for the Main Office and Boys Ranch staff and provides pertinent information for payroll processing by the established deadline.
  1. Responds to internal and external requests regarding personnel records information and ensures the accuracy and completeness of the information prior to releasing.
  1. Processes Workers’ Compensation claims and Family Medical Leave requests ensuring that all documentation is accurate and complete within specified timeframes.
  1. Acts as the safety committee coordinator for the Main Office; ensures Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches programs and Sheriffs Ranches Enterprises locations maintain appropriate safety committee meetings, documentation, etc.
  2. Inputs and maintains the human resources information system records pertaining to employee benefits and compiles reports from the database within the assigned functional area.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

High School graduate or equivalent, a minimum of four years of responsible related experience in general office/clerical work or human resources experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.  Experience with personal computers and Windows based software is essential.  Knowledge of human resources functions is preferred.

Job Type: Full-Time

Pay: $18.00 per hour
